The Jurassic Era

Cottages in
Adlestrop built of honey coloured Cotswold Limestone

The characteristic honey coloured Cotswold limestone used in building is quarried locally from deposits laid down in the Jurassic era (140 to 200 Million years ago).
Britain was then located at latitude 30o-40o N beneath a shallow tropical sea and dinosaurs roamed the land.

Our walks we will take us over limestone made up of material from marine creatures living at that time, which was deposited at the bottom of the sea.
